Christmas Angel Program of Hernando County needs computers for kids

Charity needs computers, gift cards, cash

The Christmas Angel Program of Hernando County is seeking donations of used, working computers, preferably with Windows XP or Windows 7. Also needed are printers and other computer-related equipment. All computers will be cleared of sensitive information. Also, donations of gift cards (for clothing and school supplies), as well as cash donations are welcome. The Christmas Angel Program is a nonprofit organization that assists children in need, including teens and approaching college students. For information, call Mary or Bill at (352) 596-1552.

Taste of Jazz! has been canceled

The Hernando County Fine Arts Council has canceled this year's Taste of Jazz! event, which was originally scheduled for Nov. 6 and 7 at Weeki Wachee State Springs. For information, call (352) 754-4788 or send e-mail to hernandoculture@yahoo.com.

SPRING HILL

Running event for those killed on 9/11

The annual Run to Remember will be at 7 a.m. Saturday at the Hernando County Family YMCA, 1300 Mariner Blvd. Those interested can participate in a 5K run or 1-mile walk. The Hernando County Sheriff's Office will lead runners into the Seven Hills community, and Spring Hill Fire Rescue will follow all racers to the end. Afterward, there will be a brief prayer service and continental breakfast at the Y. Spectators are welcome. The purpose of the event is to remember those who were killed in the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. There is no cost to participate, but registration is required. Forms may be picked up at the Y or online at ymcasuncoast.org. There is no cost, but participants can purchase a commemorative YMCA Run to Remember T-shirt for $5. Tickets available for annual Fur Ball

The Humane Society of the Nature Coast will present its seventh annual Humane Society Fur Ball at 6 p.m. Sept. 18 at Silverthorn Country Club, 4550 Golf Club Lane. Tickets are $75 each, which includes hors d'oeuvres during the cocktail hour at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m., dancing and a special appearance by the Nonbreeders. Experience edible plants, wild game

Incredible Edibles will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Chinsegut Nature Center, 23212 Lake Lindsey Road. The program explores edible plants and wild game. Participants should bring a place setting and outdoor camp chair. There is no cost, but registration is required. Call (352) 754-6722.
