Tropical Storm Igor, which formed Wednesday in the eastern Atlantic Ocean, is expected to begin strengthening on Friday.
The ninth tropical storm of the season, Igor could become a hurricane by Sunday as it moves through warmer waters and undergoes less wind shear.
Igor has been meandering to the south of the Cape Verde Islands, but is expect to begin moving slowly west-northwest later today.
Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph.
