CLEARWATER — Police are investigating a robbery-turned-shooting that happened early Thursday.
According to Clearwater police, 28-year-old Jeremy D. Sessions and 29-year-old Stephen K. Jameson, both of Clearwater, were robbed at gunpoint by two young men in the 200 block of Waverly Way about 12:30 a.m.
The robbers took a backpack. One of them was armed with a handgun and shot Sessions during the robbery.
Sessions was taken to Morton Plant Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
The robbers ran away after the shooting. Police used a canine unit and tried to track them, but they could not be found.
The suspects were described as black. One appeared to be about 16 or 17 years old, 5-foot-6, with a thin build.
He was last seen wearing blue jeans and was not wearing a shirt. He had a tattoo on his arm and "twisty" dreadlock hair, police said
Sessions and Jameson could not provide a description of the second person.
An investigation is ongoing.
