PORT RICHEY — A turn into oncoming traffic left an 89-year-old woman dead and the driver seriously injured Saturday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Troopers said that shortly after noon Dorothea Krizek, 89, was a riding in a 2009 Hyundai with Edward Fedock, 86, at the wheel, as they pulled out of a driveway onto Congress Street just south of Ridge Road. Authorities said Fedock apparently made a left turn directly into the path of a 1997 Chevrolet being driven by Casey Fay Bird, 31, of Hudson.

In the collision that followed, Krizek and Fedock suffered severe injuries. Both were taken to Bayonet Point Hospital, where Krizek was pronounced dead in the emergency room about an hour and a half later, troopers said. Bird was taken to Northbay Hospital with minor injuries.

No charges have been filed, and the investigation is still underway.
