I understand the frustration of some Pinellas leaders regarding high-speed transit.
Experts say light rail is best for the county. High-speed transit wouldn't bring as much economic boost, wouldn't serve locals and wouldn't get Orlando tourists to the beach, just across the bay.
But for now, light rail remains lines on a map. High-speed rail is close to being under construction, so St. Petersburg Mayor Bill Foster is pushing for an extension across the bay.
The clamor will raise attention, but ultimately Pinellas has to strengthen its light-rail plans. Leadership requires long-term vision, not quick fixes. …
Gubernatorial candidate Rick Scott spent the entire GOP primary season running television commercials about his support of the Arizona immigration law. Since then, not one ad about the law. But he did send out a news release last week honoring Hispanic Heritage Month.
I guess that's one way to "get to work." …

The Rays have produced no shortage of roller-coaster moments this season. But all of that, plus their hustle and youth, just makes them one thing: baseball's most lovable team. And I'm loving every minute.
