Groups unite to make homecomings special

Belle of the Ball and Dream a Dress, two nonprofit organizations that provide homecoming and prom dresses to low-income high school girls in Pinellas and Hillsborough counties, are joining forces to distribute homecoming dresses.

The giveaways, which also include shoes and purses, will take place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the next four Saturdays (through Oct. 16) at Seminole Mall, 11210 Park Blvd. N.

Partners N Progress set groovy-themed gala

The 14th annual Partners N Progress for the Arts Gala will start at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Largo Cultural Center, 105 Central Park Drive.

This year's event, "The Age of Aquarius," will include cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, dinner, silent and live auctions and dancing.

Entertainment will be provided by Bisesti Productions, featuring music from the rock opera Hair.

Partners N Progress for the Arts, the all-volunteer organization set up in 1998 to provide fundraising to the Largo Cultural Center, provides scholarships to disadvantaged children to attend the center's summer theater camps.

Partners N Progress also sponsors the Children's Theater Series at the Cultural Center. Gala tickets are $100.

State's top bands to vie at Largo invitational

The Largo High School Band of Gold will host the Golden Invitational at 5 p.m. Oct. 9 at the high school stadium, 410 Missouri Ave., Largo. The fundraiser is a competition for bands statewide.
