BROOKSVILLE — The inmate at the Hernando County Jail had the bear claws needed to pay off his gambling debt. But he was short a few honey buns, and it earned him a punch in the face from another prisoner, a report states.
Brandon Markey told deputies that he had a bet with fellow prisoner Ricardo Cleveland Sellers over a football game, the Hernando County sheriff's report states. The report does not mention which game they wagered on.
Markey said he went to Sellers' cell Tuesday to pay him the bear claws he owed him, but he was short four honey buns. Markey said he would pay in full when he got his next commissary visit.
Sellers, the report said, was not happy about that arrangement and punched Markey in the right side of his face. Markey was taken to Brooksville Regional Hospital, but tests showed he had no broken bones.
Deputies interviewed three other prisoners about the incident. One said he was not there, and two others said they would not cooperate.
Sellers, 21, of Spring Hill was arrested on a charge of battery.
