Heading to work or have an appointment you want to be on time for Monday morning? Then you might want to set your alarm clock a few minutes earlier tonight.

Monday marks the first day of school for Pasco County students. The yellow buses will be out in force, transporting some 36,000 kids.

That could slow things down a bit, and drivers are asked to watch out and to show a little patience.

"The kids are going to be out and about," said Gary Sawyer, director of transportation for Pasco County schools. "Kids will be walking to school, kids will be riding the bus, kids will be driving and waiting at bus stops, so everybody needs to be careful."

Commuters might want to get an early start and should also be aware of traffic back-ups in school zones, especially on roads like U.S. 41 that are undergoing construction.

Buses may run behind schedule during the first week of school, Sawyer said, so students may get home a little later than usual. Those who did not get bus information at school orientation can check online at www.pasco.k12.fl.us/transportation or call the transportation department at (727) 774-0400.
