Low-cost pet vaccination clinic for dogs and cats in Brooksville

Low-cost shots for dogs and cats

Florida International Teaching Zoo's veterinary staff will provide a low-cost pet vaccination clinic from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Tractor Supply, 18741 Cortez Blvd. Rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats will be $6. Dog distemper/parvovirus combo shots and cat distemper shots are $14, and dog kennel cough/bordetella shots are $15. All vaccinations will be administered by the veterinarian. Documentation will be provided. Proceeds are tax-deductible contributions that benefit the Teaching Zoo facility that is under construction in Bushnell. For information, call (352) 867-7788.

Springstead High alumni reconnect

During homecoming week, Springstead High School alumni will gather for the following events at the high school, 3300 Mariner Blvd.:

• 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 13, at the Eagles Stadium, for skits, homecoming court and fireworks. Cost is $5 per person. Sign in at the alumni table.

• 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15, for the homecoming game. The cost is $5 per person.

Personnel advisory board positions open

The Hernando County Commission is accepting applications for those interested in volunteering on the Hernando County Personnel Advisory Board. There are vacancies for two employees, one employee alternate and one layperson. The Personnel Advisory Board provides the county commissioners with recommendations on matters regarding employee relations and conducts hearings on employee grievances. Applications are available in the county administrator's office, room 263 of the Hernando County Government Center, 20 N Main St., Brooksville, as well as online at hernandocounty.us/bocc/committees.htm.

Completed applications must be returned to the administrator's office no later than 5 p.m. Oct. 1. All applicants must be Hernando County residents and registered voters. For information, call (352) 754-4002.

Agencies will host family forum, dance

The Area 13 Family Care Council, Area 13 Agency for Persons with Disabilities and waiverprovider.com will host the APD Quarterly Waitlist/FCC Family Forum and Dance Oct. 2 at the Tavares Civic Center, 100 E Carolina St.

Registration will be from 9:30 to 10 a.m., and programs will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch will be at 11:30 a.m. Music and dancing will be from 2 to 4 p.m.

There will be information and resource displays about guardianship, letter of intent, Medicaid, Social Security, vocational rehabilitation, Special Olympics, Central Florida Parent Center AWARE and others. There will also be a free home respite raffle and scrapbooking.

Meeting to focus on November ballot issues

The United Communities of Hernando County will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at Silverthorn Community Center, 4400 Mallard Lake Drive.

The meeting will include two speakers who will discuss issues to be on the November ballot: Robert Widmar will talk about the constitutional amendment as it relates to local government comprehensive land use plans. Joseph Staph from Hernando County Solid Waste Division will discuss the proposed change to the county's trash, yard waste and recycling pick-up program.

BROOKSVILLE

ABATE to hold 30th Spooks 'N Scoots

The Hillsborough County Chapter of ABATE of Florida, Inc. will host the 30th annual Spooks 'N Scoots at Sertoma Youth Ranch, 85 Myers Road, south of Spring Lake. Gates open at noon Oct. 1 and close at 5 p.m. Oct. 3.

The weekend event includes vendors, games, live bands, raffles, children's activities, food, drinks and a beauty contest. All motorcycles welcome. The group will leave the campground at 10 a.m. Sunday for a memorial run. A bike blessing and devotional will be provided by the Christian Motorcycle Riders. The CMA area will offer free boot shines and coffee during daylight hours on Friday and Saturday.

Weekend tickets (Friday-Sunday) are $25 for ABATE members and $30 for all others. Tickets for Saturday are $15 for ABATE members and $20 for all others. Ages 15 and younger are admitted free (must be accompanied by an adult).
