Cat lovers welcomed at weekend show

Cat lovers are invited to the first Ragamuffin Associated Group's Annual Cat Show this weekend at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 5850 K of C Drive (off U.S. 19).

The show will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Breeders and exhibitors will be coming from as far as California and Nova Scotia for this show, which is being dedicated to group founder Janet Klarmann, who died recently after a long illness.

Admission is $3 at the door; and the public is also asked to bring pet food or toys for the SPCA, which will receive the proceeds from this event.

Sister Stroll breast cancer walk Saturday

Florida Hospital Zephyrhills will sponsor its annual Sister Stroll breast cancer walk Saturday at the walking trail at the hospital, 7050 Gall Blvd.

Signup is at 8 a.m. with the walk from 9 to 10 a.m. Experts will be available to answer questions. Refreshments will be provided.

Donations will be accepted and will benefit the hospital's new breast center. For information call (813) 783-6114.

Donate your long hair for Locks of Love kids

Care to donate some hair for a good cause? Susan Puntes of Jack's Barber Shop will be on hand at 5:30 p.m. Monday to provide haircuts to people donating their long tresses to Locks of Love.

The nonprofit organization makes wigs for children who have lost their hair due to a medical condition.

The haircuts will be provided at Moose Lodge 1747, 6825 Beach Blvd. Moose Lodge members invite the public to participate. For information, call (727) 868-9894.

Military parade seeks groups and veterans

Sand Soldiers of America is organizing a military parade for 10 a.m. Oct. 9 during the Cotee River Bike Fest.

The parade, which will honor retired and active military personnel, will begin at Gulf Drive and Grand Boulevard and end at Grand Boulevard and Montana Avenue.

A service will follow at noon at Sims Park. All military groups, military vehicles, marching units, horse units, school bands and ROTC groups who wish to participate may complete the application at www.sandsoldiersofamerica.org or call the West Pasco Chamber of Commerce at (727) 842-7651.

Free hospital program on preventing falls

According to the Florida Department of Health, falls are the leading cause of injury-related deaths, hospitalizations and emergency department visits among people over 55.

Among Pasco County's senior population in 2008, falls accounted for 71 deaths, 1,299 nonfatal hospitalizations, and 3,295 non-fatal emergency room visits.

Community Hospital and Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point are offering A Matter of Balance, a free program designed to help older adults prevent falls and increase activity levels. The program, sponsored by the local HCA hospitals and the Pasco County Fall Prevention Coalition, will be offered on Tuesday at Community Hospital and Oct. 18 at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point.
