TAMPA — The Hillsborough Sheriff's Office on Thursday released a video of last week's massive pileup that sent eight people to the hospital, including sheriff's Deputy Deborah Walker.
The 51-second clip shows a large crane enter the intersection of Hillsborough Avenue and 56th Street in Tampa and slam into a sport utility vehicle and a deputy's cruiser. Those vehicles collide with a dump truck and blue minivan, which crashes into a HART bus.
The video of the Sept. 16 crash was recorded by cameras on the HART bus. The agency gave the footage to the Sheriff's Office.
No one was killed in the pileup, and Deputy Walker is expected to be released from the hospital soon.
Charges have not been filed, and the crash is still under investigation, the Sheriff's Office said.
Officials from the crane company told investigators last week that they believe a mattress in the road caused the 41-ton crane's brakes to fail, which sent it careening into the intersection. It is not clear in the video if there was a mattress in the road.
