As Tropical Storm Matthew approaches Central America, a hurricane warning is in effect for areas of Honduras and Nicaragua on Friday.
The storm has maximum sustained winds of 50 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center. It is strengthening in the warm Caribbean waters and could turn into a hurricane later in the day.
Matthew is about 240 miles east of Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua. It's moving west at 16 mph.
Locally, it should be a rainy weekend, said Bay News 9 meteorologist Juli Marquez.
"People should look for some showers and thunderstorms to produce heavy rains at times beginning today through the weekend," she said.
Temperatures will be in the upper 80s to low 90s this weekend. Next week's weather depends on other storms that could be brewing in the Caribbean.
