TAMPA — Two people died early Sunday morning after one of them drove the wrong way on Interstate 4, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Heading east on westbound I-4, Ramiro Echevarria Muniz, 49, of Polk City drove into oncoming traffic west of Macintosh Road at about 2:15 a.m., the patrol said.
His car struck a sport utility vehicle driven by Christopher Sheridan, 28, of Lutz. A third vehicle, driven by Christine Yates, 51, of Deltona, then struck Muniz, sending Yates' car onto the shoulder where it flipped onto its roof, the patrol's report said. Yates, who was wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected.
Muniz and Yates were pronounced dead at the scene, the report said. Muniz was not wearing a seat belt.
Sheridan and two passengers were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
