DUNEDIN — A 31-year-old woman was arrested after a youth football game Saturday night after, deputies say, she beat up another woman over a disagreement about the game.
Chrishona D. Burrowes of 1952 Palm Drive, Clearwater, was charged with aggravated battery.
The incident happened around 8:30 p.m. at Dunedin High School, 1651 Pinehurst Drive, after a Suncoast Youth Football Conference game between the Northeast Bandits and Dunedin Junior Falcons varsity pee wee teams. The conference is not affiliated with the high school.
"There was some sort of argument in the stands," said Pinellas County Sheriff's Office spokesman Sgt. Tom Nestor. "The victim walked out to the parking lot and that's when she was surrounded by this woman and her friends."
Several people witnessed the incident, Nestor said.
According to an arrest report, the victim, a 30-year-old St. Petersburg woman, was hospitalized with injuries that included a large cut on the back of her head and a swollen eye. She was also kicked, according to a report.
Deputies "took the victim's shirt as evidence because it clearly showed a footprint of being kicked in the ribs by someone wearing a Nike Shock sneaker," the report said.
"One of the deputies recalled the suspect was wearing those sneakers," Nestor said.
The victim called 911 after the incident and was taken to Mease Dunedin Hospital. Her condition was unknown early Monday afternoon.
After the fight, Burrowes left in a Chevy Impala, but was stopped a few blocks away by deputies who had received a description of the car, Nestor said. She was the only person charged in the incident.
Burrowes admitted hitting the woman, but claimed she did so after being threatened by the victim, according to a report.
Burrowes was released early Sunday morning after posting $10,000 bail.
