Fire Department plans to host open house
As part of Fire Prevention Week, the High Point Volunteer Fire Department will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Fire Department at 800 Baltic St.
There will be demonstrations on all functions of the fire trucks and other fire equipment at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. There will also be games for children, and refreshments will be served. Fire alarms and fire extinguishers will be available for purchase.
There will also be signup sheets for those interested in joining the department. For more information, call (352) 592-2330.
Also, High Point residents who would like to have their smoke detectors or fire extinguishers checked can call Chief Will Grenier at (352) 593-7384 or Assistant Chief Joe Curcio at (352) 293-2441 or sign up at the firehouse.
BROOKRIDGE
Blues Brothers show will kick off season
Brookridge Entertainment will kick off its season with the Blue Brothers Revue at 7:05 p.m. Oct. 14 at Brookridge Clubhouse, 8150 Hampton St. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
Wink Warren and Daven Martin bring the Jake and Elwood characters to life in this show that includes a seven-piece band, backup singers and hits such as Soul Man and Gimme Some Lovin'.
Tickets to the show are $15 each. Season tickets are available and are $88 for Brookridge residents and $104 for nonresidents.
Additional shows include Jimmy Travis on Nov. 11, the Marlins on Dec. 9, Top 10 Rock 'n' Roll Revue on Jan. 13, Bennie and the Jets (tribute to Elton John) on Feb. 10, Fernando Varela on March 10 and the BJ Windsong Show on April 14.
