Bring your gun to 4-H trap shoot
The Hernando Sportsman's Club's 4-H Club will host a 4-H Trap Benefit Shoot Oct. 9 at the club range, 16121 Commercial Way, north of Weeki Wachee (9 1/2 miles north of Cortez Boulevard), in the Chassahowitzka Wildlife Management Area.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at the club's trap range. Shooting begins at 9 a.m.
The shoot is four rounds for a total of 100 shots. Winners will be selected from three categories: youth, adult and senior. The winner is determined by most targets hit.
Those who register by today pay $35; after that the cost is $40. Lunch is included. Participants should bring their own gun and ammunition.

NRA course covers personal safety
An NRA course, Refuse to Be a Victim, will be offered from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 10 at the Hernando Sportsman's Club, 16121 Commercial Way, north of Weeki Wachee (9 1/2 miles north of Cortez Boulevard), in the Chassahowitzka Wildlife Management Area.
The class teaches the basic knowledge, skills and attitude for developing a strategy for one's personal safety.
Advance registration is required. The cost is $20 for students and $85 for instructors. To register, call (352) 597-9931.

Career fair Oct. 15 at Nature Coast Tech
A Professional/Industrial Career Fair will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Oct. 15 at Nature Coast Technical High School, 4057 California St.
Exhibit space is available for $49 per table. Space is limited and payment must be received by Oct. 8.
The event is hosted by the Greater Hernando County Chamber of Commerce, Career Central, Hernando County Office of Business Development and Hernando Today.

Swiftmud board cuts millage for FY 2011
The Southwest Florida Water Management District Governing Board adopted its fiscal year 2011 millage rates for the general fund and the seven basin boards.
The adopted millage rate for the Districtwide General Fund is 0.3770, which is 0.0096 less than the current fiscal year's rate of 0.3866.
For the owner of a $150,000 home with a $50,000 homestead exemption, the FY 2011 districtwide tax would be $37.70 a year, or about $3.14 per month.
