Orders being taken for Angel Food Ministries

Angel Food Ministries food orders are being taken at two locations:

• 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday; 6 to 8 p.m. Friday; 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 9; 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 10; and 9 to 10:30 a.m. Oct. 23, at Christ Lutheran Church, 475 North Ave. W. Orders will be available for pickup from 9 to 11 a.m. Oct. 30. Call (352) 796-8331. Orders can also be made online at www.clcfla.org.

Angel Food Ministries is a nonprofit, nondenominational organization that provides grocery relief. Families of all income levels can participate; there are no income requirements. The cost is $31 per signature box, which retails for about $60. Various specialty boxes are also available at different prices. Participants no longer have to bring their own boxes or containers when picking up orders. All food is now preboxed.

Cancer fundraiser Nov. 13 needs vendors

The Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 10209 is seeking vendors to participate in the Holiday Stop and Shop that will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 13 at the post, 14736 Edward R. Noll Drive.

The indoor event is a fundraiser to benefit prostate cancer, cancer aid and research. Coffee, donuts and a bake sale will be available.

Vendor spaces are $25, which includes an 8-foot table. Reservations are required by Oct. 15. Call Kathy Alonzo at (352) 232-6409.

MASARYKTOWN

Kiwanis fundraiser to help kids' programs

The Kiwanis Club of Brooksville Ridge and the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Hernando Alumni Program will host a "Taste of the Fields" fundraiser at 5 p.m. Oct. 23 at Sweetfields Farm, 17250 Benes Roush Road.

There will be a farm tour, corn maze, hayride, appetizers, wine and music. A five-course dinner will be served from 6 to 8:30 p.m., which will be prepared and served by the Sunflower Chef Amy Wilson and Chef Audrey Costa of Chef Audrey's Fresh Market Café.

Tickets are $50 each or $90 per couple. Funds raised will help various Kiwanis programs for children, such as its preschool reading program, Student Food Backpack Project and Reaching Out to Cancer Kids. Proceeds will also provide scholarship funds for the Leadership Hernando Program.

2011 master gardener calendar is available

The 2011 Hernando County Master Gardener calendar is now available. The calendars are $3 and may be purchased at the Hernando County Cooperative Extension Service, 1653 Blaise Drive.

The calendar features month-by-month expert advice on Central Florida landscaping and information pertinent to both longtime gardeners and beginners. Stop by the extension office for a calendar or, for information, call (352) 754-4433.

Quarter bingo games will resume Oct. 9

Quarter bingo games will restart Oct. 9 at the Weeki Wachee Area Club, 7442 Shoal Line Blvd.

Boy Scouts to open annual pumpkin patch

Boy Scout Troop 442 will open their annual Pumpkin Patch Wednesday at Fellowship Community Church, 11250 Spring Hill Drive. The patch will be open from noon to 9 p.m. weekdays, and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays.

Proceeds will be used to help the boys with their annual summer camp costs and other needs within the troop. For information, call (352) 686-4612.

Republicans will host Reagan Day Dinner

The Hernando County Republican Executive Committee will host the second annual Reagan Day Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Palace Grand, 275 Della Court.

The event will include a buffet dinner, cash bar and a "Fire Nancy Pelosi" rally. Various candidates and notable Republican politicians will be in attendance. The featured speaker will be Pam Bondi.

Jazz Society to stage 'Mostly Broadway'

The Hernando Jazz Society will present "Mostly Broadway" at 1:30 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Wellington Clubhouse, 400 Wexford Blvd.

The event will feature the Frankie Dee's Quintet. Following the quintet's performance, musicians will be welcome to sit in.

Wheelathon for spinal cord injury research

A Wheelathon for spinal cord injury research will be at 5 p.m. Oct. 14 at Healthsouth Rehabilitation Hospital, 12440 Cortez Blvd.

Presented by the Spinal Cord Society, the purpose is to promote awareness in the search for a cure for spinal cord injury, and to raise funds for research.

The concept is for able-bodied individuals, along with those with spinal cord injuries, to proceed around a course while seated in a wheelchair.

Church's youth group will host Fall Festival

A Fall Festival Fundraiser will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Bridge Christian Life Center, 7279 Pinehurst Drive.

The event, sponsored by the church's youth group, will include games, prizes and food. Advanced tickets can be purchased for $5 for 25 tickets. Tickets purchased at the event will be 25 cents each.

Enrichment Center will offer 2 CPR classes

A CPR class will be offered at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Spring Hill Enrichment Center, 11375 Cortez Blvd., behind Oak Hill Hospital. Another class will be offered Oct. 21.

The course meets the guidelines of the American Heart Association and the American Safety and Health Institute. It is designed for professional health care providers, but anyone interested may participate.

The cost is $20. Upon completion, students will receive a two-year certification card.

Sponsor, celebrate school's 30 years

A "Legacy Dinner and Auction" to celebrate Hernando Christian Academy's 30th anniversary will be at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at the school, 7200 Emerson Road.

Sponsorships are available: Table sponsorships are $400 and include eight seats, priority table assignment, the name or corporation listed in the program and on the school website, and express checkout for auction purchases; presenting sponsorships are $1,000 and include two tables (16 seats) front and center at the event, signage on the table, listing on the program and school website, and express checkout for auction purchases.

Season tickets on sale for guild's five shows

Season tickets are available for the Hernando Performing Arts Center Guild's 2010-11 season.

The season includes five shows, with all showing at 7 p.m. at the Hernando Performing Arts Guild at Hernando High School, 700 Bell Ave. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Season tickets are $80 for all five shows. Tickets to individual shows are $25. Call (352) 799-5577.

Concerts include:

Nov. 6: Harmik, a Tom Jones impersonator. Opening act is comic Johnny Roberts.

Dec. 4: The Diamonds, successors to the original 1950s group that sang Little Darlin', Why Do Fools Fall in Love and others.

Jan. 23: Cirque du Monde.

Feb. 19: The Lowe Family, a Branson, Mo., group that sings, dances and plays musical instruments.

March 19: Johnny Cool & the Mobster Swing Band, a retro-swing group doing songs from the '20s and '30s.
