ST. PETERSBURG - A 22-year-old woman was arrested Friday night after police say she drove her car into a man on a scooter and didn't stop.
Jessica J. Eddy of 6424 Emerson Ave S., faces charges of driving under the influence causing serious bodily injury, leaving the scene of a crash with injuries and driving on a suspended license.
The man she is accused of hitting, 20-year-old Bruce W. Barber Jr. of St. Petersburg, was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in critical but stable condition.
According to police, Eddy was driving her 1997 BMW east on Third Avenue South at about 11:30 p.m. Friday when she tried to make a right turn onto 64th Street South.
Eddy made the turn too wide, however, and came into the lane of Barber's scooter, which was in the northbound lane of 64th Street.
It appears that Barber tried to avoid the collision by laying the scooter on its side, police said.
The young man ended up along the curb, while his scooter got stuck under the front of the BMW.
Eddy, police said, did not stop and drove home. Police found her, the car and the scooter there a short time later.
Eddy remained in the Pinellas County Jail on Saturday in lieu of $22,500 bail.
