Cooler and drier air arrived in time for the Bright House 2010 Clearwater Super Boat National Championship Festival over the weekend. The event attracted more than 70,000 spectators.

Finally, relief.

After a summer of record-breaking heat in the Tampa Bay area, fall is making an appearance.

Temperatures this morning should be significantly lower than a week ago, with lows in the low 60s in Pinellas and Hillsborough counties, said Bay News 9 meteorologist Brian McClure. Pasco and Hernando counties could see temperatures dip as low as the 50s.

Daytimes will be cooler too, with temperatures in the low 80s for most of the area.

"This will set us up for some really nice nights ahead," he said.

McClure said this is "round two" of a cold front that started late last week.

A "slightly drier, cooler air mass" came through last week, dropping highs from the 90s into the 80s.

The second wave of that began Sunday and should continue throughout the week.

"It will be noticeable," McClure said.

McClure said the cooler air is arriving about two weeks earlier than in most years.

But don't get too used to it.

"We tend to have ups and downs in October," he said.
