Medical issue leads to crash, driver's death
A 69-year-old Tarpon Springs man died in a traffic accident late Friday. James Fenlon Peterson, of 1402 Kimberly Lane, was driving west in the 3300 block of Fifth Avenue S in St. Petersburg when he apparently suffered a medical emergency and accelerated, police said. The front of his 2002 Acura struck the right rear of a 2002 Ford Windstar that was ahead of him. After the collision, Peterson's car went off the north side of the road, struck a water meter, then drifted back across Fifth Avenue and over the south curb. The car then struck concrete posts and a pair of water meters, and crossed a parking lot before stopping in the northbound lanes of 34th Street S. No charges have been filed in the case. The driver of the Ford and a passenger in that vehicle were not hurt.
