Gather and dance to 'Oldies But Goodies'

The African American Club of Hernando County will host an Oldies But Goodies Dance Party from 7 to 11 p.m. Oct. 16 at SNPJ Hall/Suncoast Dance Party Center, 13383 County Line Road.

Resume workshop at community college

Pasco-Hernando Community College will host a resume workshop at 7 p.m. Monday in Room A-249 at the PHCC North Campus, 11415 Ponce de Leon Blvd.

The workshop will cover the latest trends in preparing a successful resume and offer tips on what employers value in these essential documents. Participants will be assisted in drafting and updating their resumes and should bring a flash drive or other memory device.

Homecoming will be busy at Springstead

During homecoming week, Springstead High School alumni will gather for the following events at the high school, 3300 Mariner Blvd.:

• 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at the Eagles Stadium; skits, homecoming court and fireworks. Cost is $5 per person. Sign in at the alumni table.

• 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15; the homecoming game. The cost is $5 per person.

Catholic Charities sets golf fundrasier

Catholic Charities' sixth annual golf tournament will be Oct. 27 at the Dunes Golf Club at Seville, 18200 Seville Clubhouse Drive, off Commercial Way, north of Weeki Wachee.

Registration is at 8 a.m. and the shotgun start will be at 9 a.m. Registration includes coffee and doughnuts. The tournament will include a hole-in-one contest for a 2011 Buick, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, a golf cart or a one-year membership at the Dunes. There also will be a lunch buffet, games, prizes and a silent auction.

The entry fee is $60 per golfer. Checks are to be made payable to Catholic Charities. Funds raised will benefit the building of a service center for residents in Hernando, Pasco and Citrus counties.

Doo-wop show will benefit 9/11 memorial

A benefit concert featuring Tommy Mara and the Legends of Doo-Wop will be Oct. 17 at VFW Post 10209, 14736 Edward R. Noll Drive. Doors open at 4 p.m., dinner is at 4:30 and show time is at 5:30.

Tickets are $50 per person, which includes the buffet dinner and 90-minute show. A cash bar will be available.

The event is sponsored by the NYC Retired Firefighters of Spring Hill Chapter 343. All proceeds will benefit the Sept. 11 memorial at Post 10209.

Parent Institute is scheduled for Oct. 21

Hernando County Schools invites parents to the ninth annual Parent Institute from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 21 at West Hernando Middle School, 14325 Ken Austin Parkway.

Registration is 5:30 to 6 p.m.; exhibitors and a complimentary sandwich dinner is from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.; workshop sessions will be 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Workshops may include: reading, math, writing, brain training, how to help your child with the FCAT, discipline, art, music, learning styles, nutrition, drug and alcohol abuse, gifted sessions, disability awareness, identity theft and making a budget.

Free student workshops will be available for children ages 6-12, and free arts and craft day care areas will be provided to children ages 3-5 by Scribbles Preschool.

AARP plans long-term care workshop Oct. 18

"Long-Term Care — What is Your Plan?" — an AARP workshop on long-term care planning — will be offered from 1 to 2 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Spring Hill Enrichment Center, 11375 Cortez Blvd., behind Oak Hill Hospital. Another workshop date is scheduled for Nov. 4.

The free workshop will be presented by Marsha Reiniers, an AARP-authorized agent with Genworth Life Insurance Co.

The workshop will include information on the "basics" of long-term care planning, how Medicare and Medicaid work in regards to long-term care planning, and the new Florida Partnership Long-Term Care Program.
