RUSKIN — A 55-year-old pedestrian died Friday night after he was hit by a pick-up truck on College Avenue.

Just before 10:45 p.m., Scott Douglas Kruger, 44, was driving a 2002 GMC Sonoma east on College Avenue, just west of 2nd Street SW, when he felt his car bump something, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

Unsure of what he hit, Kruger pulled off the road and searched the area, deputies said. Kruger called his father, who called 911.

Detectives and paramedics found Victor Lee Haskins lying in a ditch behind a cluster of tall weeds on the south side of College Avenue. Haskins, of Gibsonton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No charges have been filed, and the investigation continues.
