As an environmental activist, Clay Colson sued over the Oakstead rezoning, challenged the county's comprehensive land-use plan and rarely shied away from publicly knocking heads with county commissioners. Now, he wants to be one. He's taking on incumbent Pat Mulieri, who is seeking her fifth term.
About the job: District 2 covers the central part of Pasco County, from rural Shady Hills to high-growth Wesley Chapel. Commissioners are elected countywide but must live in the district they represent. They set policy on spending, land-use and infrastructure improvements such as roads. Commissioners serve four-year terms and are paid $80,608.
