BRANDON — Traffic on southbound Interstate 75 slowed Thursday after a fatal crash near the State Road 60 exit.
At 3:01 p.m., a car veered into a sport utility vehicle's lane, causing a crash that killed the car's passenger, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Ruth P. McDonald, 77, of Jennings, was the passenger in a 2003 Pontiac that entered the center lane of Interstate 75 from the left emergency lane. A 2000 Kia SUV already in the center lane hit the Pontiac on the passenger side, the patrol said.
McDonald died, and the Pontiac driver, Stanley L. McDonald, 83, also of Jennings, was taken to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition.
The SUV driver, Sheina J. Runions, 46, of Holmes Beach, had minor injuries and wasn't hospitalized.
The investigation is ongoing.
