TAMPA — A federal grand jury returned an indictment Thursday against a 33-year-old accused of robbing six banks in less than two weeks.
Kevin James Algood, of Tampa, faces up to 20 years in prison for each count of robbery. Federal prosecutors said he pleaded not guilty to all six counts.
According to the U.S. attorney's office, Algood's crimes began Aug. 23 with the robbery of a Lutz SunTrust Bank. Investigators then received tips that led them to place surveillance on Algood, police said.
It ended Sept. 3, when Tampa police trailed Algood from his home to a BB&T Bank at 14141 Walsingham Drive in Largo, according to Largo police.
He was arrested running out of the bank with money stuffed in his shirt, police said.
Federal prosecutors are also seeking a money judgment of $13,663 — the proceeds of all six robberies.
Trial dates were not announced.
