TAMPA — A local pain clinic physician was sentenced to nine years in federal prison Friday for conspiring to distribute oxycodone and other drugs illegally and for defrauding Medicare.
Dr. Jeffrey Friedlander, 51, was the licensed physician at Neurology & Pain Center, which operated clinics in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Lakeland, Sarasota, Orlando and Jacksonville.
Authorities say Friedlander and three members of the clinic's staff illegally distributed the prescription painkillers oxycodone, hydrocodone, alprazolam and morphine. They were arrested in April 2009.
