• As part of the Hernando County Water Awareness Series, the Hernando County Utilities Department will host a program to discuss "Universal Trash, Yard Waste and Recycling" from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the Utilities office, 21030 Cortez Blvd., Brooksville. The seminar will be presented by Hernando County Environmental Services Director Joe Stapf, who will give information on the potential changes to the county's system for residential solid waste collection. Voters on Nov. 2 will have an opportunity to vote on a nonbinding referendum on countywide automated garbage, yard waste and recycling collection. For information, call (352) 540-6780.
• The NatureCoast 9.12 Group will meet at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 23 in the lounge at Spring Hill Lanes, 3447 Commercial Way Spring Hill. Speakers include Jim Piccillo, Democratic candidate for U.S. House of Representatives, District 5; state Rep. Robert Schenck, Republican, who is running for reelection; and Laurie Pizzo, who will discuss Amendment 4 that will be on the November ballot. • West Hernando Hadassah will host "Meet the Candidates" at 1 p.m. Oct. 25 at Temple Beth David, 13158 Antelope St., Spring Hill. Questions will be answered by participating Democratic and Republican candidates, including Cynthia Moore and Sandy Nicholson for School Board; Rose Rocco and Wayne Dukes for Hernando County Commission; and Diane Rowden and James Piccillo for Florida House of Representatives. • United Communities of Hernando County will host a candidates forum from 7 to 9 p.m. Oct. 25 in the commission chambers at the Hernando County Government Center, 20 N Main St., Brooksville. A ballot booklet on the eight proposed Constitutional amendments to be voted on Nov. 2 will also be available. All voters are welcome to attend. The forum will be televised by Hernando County Government Broadcasting, televised on Bright House cable Ch. 622, and will be streaming on the internet at hernandocounty.us. • Spring Hill Fire and Rescue District will host a candidates forum for fire commission candidates at 5 p.m. Oct. 27 at District Headquarters, 3445 Bob Hartung Court, Spring Hill. The forum will be broadcast live by Hernando County Government Broadcasting.
