SPRING HILL
U.S. 19 pedestrian killed; Driver, Passenger tested
A 57-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed late Monday while crossing U.S. 19, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said Diane Zajac Morit of Spring Hill was walking east across U.S. 19, south of Forest Oaks Boulevard, about 10:50 p.m. Morit crossed the median and entered the northbound lanes of U.S. 19 when she was hit by a car driven by Eric M. Thomas. Thomas, 30, and his passenger, Katja Joerg, 28, were uninjured. Both were wearing seat belts. Sgt. Larry Kraus, a spokesman for the FHP, said the investigation is being considered a criminal case right now, pending alcohol tests on both Thomas and Morit.
