Tropical Storm Shary formed late Thursday in the Atlantic Ocean, the 18th named storm of what has turned out to be one of the busiest hurricane seasons on record.
Like virtually all the other storms this year, Shary is not expected to affect the United States.
Shary is forecast to strengthen and head northeast. Bermuda is potentially in the storm's path, and a tropical storm warning was issued Friday morning.
Shary had sustained winds near 40 mph with higher gusts and was moving northwest at 18 mph. It is expected to turn northeast Friday night.
The Atlantic hurricane season is now the fifth-busiest ever, tied with the 1969 season, according to wunderground.com. Only 2005 (28 named storms), 1933 (21 named storms), 1995 (19 named storms) and 1887 (19 named storms) had more, according to the site.
The National Hurricane Center is closely watching two other systems in the Atlantic.
