NEW PORT RICHEY — He locked the doors and broke the locks with a hammer so she couldn't escape. Then, according to police, Laszlo Voznek lit his living room on fire Saturday morning and told his victim they were going to die, as he sat on a couch near the flames and closed his eyes.
The victim — a woman whose age and relationship to Voznek was not released — escaped the burning house at 5307 Berkley Road through a kitchen window, said Lt. Steve Kostas of the New Port Richey Police Department. She suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene, he said.
Voznek, 48, and the woman began arguing about 2 a.m. Saturday and it escalated just after 6 a.m., when Voznek allegedly broke items in the home, threatened the woman with a hammer and then locked the doors.
He was treated at a local hospital and transported to the Pasco County Jail. Voznek is charged with attempted murder and arson of an occupied dwelling. He is being held without bail.
