COUNTYWIDE

United Way tax project needs volunteers

Over the past six years, the United Way's Prosperity Campaign has helped Pasco residents claim $4.3 million in earned income tax credits and saved residents an estimated $2.4 million in tax preparation costs by offering free tax filing services. But the program needs volunteers to work. Tax law and computer training is provided in December and January for volunteers who prepare and file simple tax returns for low to moderate income taxpayers. Volunteers should have good computer skills. Volunteers are also needed to serve as receptionists and to work in a call center scheduling appointments. For information or to volunteer, call Bill Humphrey at (727) 376-9119 or send an e-mail to taxvol@earthlink.net. For an appointment to have your taxes prepared, call the Pasco County Help Line by dialing 211, after Jan. 15.
