Downtown will host veterans parade today

The annual Veterans Appreciation Parade will start at 10 a.m. today in downtown Brooksville. The lineup starts at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot behind City Hall. After the parade, there will be a series of events that are part of the "Where History Lives" festival, presented by the Hernando Preservation Society. Events include a farmers market (starting at 8 a.m.) on the courthouse lawn; a military display at the City Hall Art Gallery; demonstrations with veterans, starting at noon; guided tours of the Heritage Museum and the Brooksville Train Depot; a Civil War skirmish at Tom Varn Park at 12:30 p.m. (food available from noon to 3 p.m. at the park); guided walking tours of historic downtown Brooksville from 3 to 5 p.m.; and a walking tour of Brooksville Cemetery at 4 p.m.

Siblings perform show for charity

The Temple Beth David Sisterhood will host "Spinning Through the Decades," featuring Jessica and Shawn Doolittle, from 8 to 11 p.m. today at the temple, 13158 Antelope St. The Doolittles will sing, and a DJ will provide music from the 1940s through 1970s. Tickets are $15 per person or $25 per couple, which includes refreshments and a dessert bar. Funds raised will benefit Kids Helping Kids, a charitable organization founded by the Doolittle siblings — Shawn, 20, and Jessica, 15. Hospice to host bereavement class

HPH Hospice, 12260 Cortez Blvd., will offer a holiday bereavement workshop at 3 p.m. Thursday. The 90-minute workshop is for adults who have experienced the death of a loved one and are anticipating difficulty getting through the holidays. A bereavement counselor will give helpful tips on how to cope. There will also be time for discussion. There is no cost to participate but reservations are requested. Call toll-free 1-800-486-8784.

Yard sale today aids animal rescue

A yard sale fundraiser to benefit Compassion for All His Creatures will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and Sunday at 19580 Phillips Road. All funds raised at the sale will benefit the nonprofit animal rescue group. For information, call (352) 754-9692.
