One person was killed and five others were injured in a two-car collision Saturday at Wood Street and El Portal Drive in Tampa.
TAMPA — A 31-year-old Tampa man was killed, and five others injured, when two cars collided at a residential street intersection Saturday night.
Tampa police said that at 9:37 p.m. a woman driving a 1992 Cadillac SLS hit a 1992 Honda Civic with five people in it at Wood Street and El Portal Drive in north Tampa. The impact pushed the Honda into a wooden pole.
The Honda's driver, Jason D. Plummer, died on the scene, police said Sunday. He had recently moved here from California, police said.
His four passengers, identified as Jean P. Flores, 17, Anthony Adams, 22, Daniella Campo, 15, and Alexandria Symbolis, 16, all of Tampa, were taken to hospitals in serious condition.
Rescuers said the Cadillac's driver, Charlotte V. Sowards, 18, of Tampa had non-life-threatening injuries.
No charges had been filed.
On Sunday, neighbors were not surprised to hear of the wreck.
"Every day, people don't stop at the stop sign," said Miguel Laguna, who lives at the corner of Wood Street and El Portal Drive. "Every day, they speed down the street."
Ralph Clifford, who lives on the opposite corner, agreed.
"I think they should put in a four-way stop and speed bumps," Clifford said.
He watches helplessly each day, he said, as cars speed down the 25 mph road.
"We've got kids in this neighborhood," he said.
