CLEARWATER — Two people were killed after an 18-wheel semi-trailer truck struck a gold Toyota Camry Friday morning at Curlew Road and Countryside Boulevard N, according to police.

The crash shutdown Curlew's eastbound lanes and all northbound and southbound lanes on Countryside Boulevard at the scene of the crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Police said the intersection would be closed for several hours.

The semi was heading east on Curlew through the intersection. The Camry was heading westbound on Curlew when it turned south on Countryside and was T-boned in the intersection.

The truck driver, who declined to give his name, said the Camry turned in front of him. He said he was carrying a half load at the time.

After the crash, the Camry spun to the southeast corner of the intersection and came to a rest in a pedestrian walkway. The semi continued down Curlew for about 120 feet.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to the scene about 10:19 a.m.

No other information was immediately available.
