Oakdale lights display will run through Jan. 3
The 34th Annual Oakdale Christmas Display is open and will continue through Jan. 3 from 6 to 10 p.m. nightly at 2719 Oakdale St. S in St. Petersburg. More than 600,000 lights make up the walking yard tour that includes many moving and animated items, inflatables, lit up figures and displays. The display covers about half an acre. Wreaths festival to aid Alzheimer's charity
Arden Courts Alzheimer's Assisted Living of Seminole, 9300 137th St. N, will hold a Festival of Wreaths fundraising event from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Benefiting the Alzheimer's Association Florida Gulf Coast Chapter, the Festival of Wreaths is a silent auction, with bidding for donated wreaths with different themes, including holiday, sports and pets. Project to help prevent sexual violence
In an effort to help prevent sexual violence in Largo, the Pinellas County Health Department and the city are preparing to implement the "Respect Me" Prevention Project, funded through a grant from the state Department of Health.
The program involves sharing information with children in grades 4 through 8 during before- and after-school programs to increase their skills in building healthy relationships based on respect.
The official kickoff meeting will be 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Largo City Hall, 201 Highland Ave. Representatives from the city and the Health Department will be available to answer questions and provide information on how the public can play a role in this program. Adult and Senior Talent Show set for Thursday

Red Cross lifeguarding class at Southwest Pool
The Largo Recreation, Parks and Arts Department is conducting an American Red Cross lifeguarding class scheduled for Dec. 6-17 at Southwest Pool, 13120 Vonn Road. Classes will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday for two weeks. This class is open to ages 15 and older. The course teaches the skills necessary to become an American Red Cross-certified lifeguard. The fee is $125 for residents and $156.25 for nonresidents. A Largo recreation card is required. Annie Moses Band will play jazz, classical
Tickets are on sale for the Annie Moses Band, a chamber-pop string band comprised of six siblings who have been featured on PBS television. They will perform a holiday concert, "This Glorious Christmas," at the Largo Cultural Center at 8 p.m. Dec. 10. The Annie Moses Band is led by singer/violinist Annie Wolaver and blends classical and jazz music with acoustic instruments arranged with modern pop production. Mrs. Santa Claus to visit Southwest Rec Complex
Register now to visit with Mrs. Claus. She will visit Southwest Recreation Complex, 13120 Vonn Road, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Dec. 11. There will be a story time, as well as crafts and a holiday snack. Time will be set aside for your little one to get a picture taken with Mrs. Claus, so don't forget to bring your camera. The cost is $5 per child. Dance to 10 O'Clock Swing Band Dec. 11-12

Tax-savvy volunteers needed to help seniors
The AARP Tax-Aide program is looking for volunteers to prepare federal tax returns. Volunteers receive IRS-certified training (five or six days in January) and reimbursement for mileage. GoodGuides mentors help at-risk youths
Adults can have a positive impact on a teen's life by volunteering one hour a week as a mentor for Goodwill's GoodGuides youth mentoring program. GoodGuides helps 12- to 17-year-olds who face risk factors such as school failure, family violence and other challenges. Young people are paired with mentors who lend a supportive ear and offer guidance to help them finish school and build career plans. Clothing charity seeks shoes, pants for boys
Clothes To Kids needs boys' tennis shoes sizes 12 to adult 13 and boys' pants sizes 6 to 16. These items, along with any other clothing donation, can be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at two Clothes To Kids locations:

The Deaf and Hearing Connection recently announced the addition of several new telephones, TTYs and captioned telephones available through its no-charge equipment distribution program. Deaf and Hearing Connection offers amplified telephones and related equipment at no cost to permanent Florida residents who are deaf, hard of hearing, deaf/blind or speech-impaired.
