LAND O'LAKES — Two Pasco inmates, including a rapist sentenced to life in prison, were charged with battery on a law enforcement officer after attacking a jail deputy Sunday, arrest reports show.
Cornelius Alexander, 41, yelled and shoved a detention deputy when his phone call was cut short by jail staff. When the deputy began to handcuff Alexander, inmate Bobby Black, 22, jumped on the deputy's back and tried to grab his arms. Both men were subdued and handcuffed. No deputies were seriously injured.
Black was convicted last year of raping and assaulting two Zephyrhills women, aged 66 and 68. He was taken to the Pasco jail to testify at the trial of Jathniel McMichael, who joined him in the attack. Black was not called to the stand. McMichael was sentenced last week to life in prison.
Alexander was arrested last month on a warrant charging him with grand theft auto and resisting arrest.
