Club news
Dunedin Masonic Lodge 192 presented its 2010 Deputy of the Year award to Detective John Grubb of the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office. The award for outstanding service to the community was presented during a special dinner at the lodge with more than 50 people in attendance, including superior officers Sgt. Cindy Gibson and Lt. Madden, along with good friend Cpl. Summers.
Making the presentation was Ken Giesow of Dunedin Lodge.
According to Sheriff Jim Coats, Grubb began his career with the Sheriff's Office in 1990 working as a property clerk in the purchasing division.
In 1993, he transferred to the forensic science section where, at age 23, he was the youngest member of the unit. There, Grubb processed crime scenes from simple batteries to homicides, gathering documentation and processing physical evidence. During his 10 years in the unit, he also served as an assistant shift supervisor.
Looking to expand his career horizon, in 2002 he enrolled part time in the Police Academy at Hillsborough Community College while working the midnight shift in forensics. Grubb credits his wife for her support during that time, when he was away from home at least 80 hours a week for nine months.
In July 2003, Grubb was deputized and transferred to patrol operations, where he worked three years on various shifts from South Pasadena to Tarpon Springs, including a year in Dunedin on the midnight shift.
He enjoys the detailed workings of a specialty unit and its ability to focus on an essential function within law enforcement, so in late 2006, the detective became part of the sexual predator-offender tracking unit. His current assignment is tracking and monitoring approximately 200 sexual offenders, predators and career offenders in the Clearwater-Largo area.
Grubb lives in Clearwater with his wife and his three sons. He enjoys spending time with the family, camping and traveling where they can fish.
