ST. PETERSBURG — St. Petersburg College saw record enrollment on the first day of classes Monday with 32,132 students. That's an 11.2 percent increase over last year, and the second year in a row that the college has seen its enrollment grow by more than 10 percent. College administrators say the sluggish economy has encouraged some students to return to school to seek more education. Enrollment in the college's four-year bachelor's degree programs is up 20.5 percent. Meanwhile, enrollment for the University of South Florida system ticked up about 1 percent, to 47,110. At USF St. Petersburg, enrollment Monday was 3,947, a 1.4 percent increase, with 411 freshmen.
