SPRING HILL -- Sean Santana was about to clean his pistol on Saturday afternoon when it went off and he shot himself in the hand, records show.
Santana, 26, told Hernando County Sheriff's deputies that he had stepped into the backyard of his home on Evenglow Lane and was about to spray the .25-caliber semiautomatic with cleaning solvent when the gun fired, hitting him in the left middle finger. He immediately wrapped his hand and drove himself to Oak Hill Hospital.
Deputies determined the shooting was accidental.
