Tampa police swat teams responded after a 38-year-old man barricaded himself, a woman and her 4-year-old son in an apartment Tuesday morning.

TAMPA — A 38-year-old man was arrested on a weapon charge after refusing to come out of an apartment where shots were reportedly fired Tuesday morning.

Police say Antowonie Noland, a felon who was recently released from prison, would not come out of the apartment at 10915 Bourbon Court for two hours. Police went to the apartment after receiving a call of shots fired shortly after midnight and got permission from Noland's girlfriend, Carmen Baz, to search the home when he was not there, officials said.

Police discovered an AK-47 rifle that was involved in a 2007 Tampa police case, though no further details were given about the case. Police confiscated the weapon, and Noland returned about 6 a.m.

Noland refused to come out of the apartment once he was inside, police said, and Baz and her sleeping 4-year-old son, Raphahel, stayed with him. The Tampa police tactical unit responded, treating it as a hostage situation, although officials later said Baz stayed in the apartment willingly.

Two hours later, Baz agreed to open the door, and Noland agreed to lie on his stomach with his hands out. He was taken into custody.

Noland, who has been arrested 19 times, will be charged as a felon with a weapon, police said.
