Needy can attend 'Free Day' at church
Second Chance Restoration Ministries will host "Free Day" for the needy at 10 a.m. Saturday at 19235 Cortez Blvd., in the Killingsworth Plaza.
There will be a giveaway of clothing, shoes, toys, electronics and other items. Complimentary refreshments will be served, including hot dogs, chips and drinks. The event is for families and individuals in need. For information, call (352) 585-6083.

Buy plants half-off at Garden Club Nursery
The Spring Hill Garden Club Nursery will host a 50 percent-off sale on plants from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the club's plant nursery, 1489 Parker Ave.

Club presents annual home tour downtown
The Brooksville Woman's Club will present the 10th annual Historic Tour of Homes in downtown Brooksville on Dec. 12. Three tour times are available at 1, 2 and 3 p.m.
Three homes and the clubhouse will be shown, where hot apple cider and homemade cookies will be served.

City to host Christmas event on Main Street
The City of Brooksville presents Christmas on Main Street from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday in downtown Brooksville.
The City Hall Art Gallery, at 201 Howell Ave., will have a reception for the Fall Art Exhibit from 5 to 7 p.m. A tree lighting ceremony with entertainment by Live Oak Theatre will start at 7:30 p.m. Visitors can stroll down Main Street and visit local merchants. Santa will visit at Ida Lillie's.

Get all-you-can-eat soup for $5 at church
St. Frances Cabrini Knights of Columbus will host the first Soup-A-Thon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and again from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Jan. 15 in Xavier Hall at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 5030 Mariner Blvd.
This will be an all-you-can-eat (one cup at a time) event. Guests pay $5 admission and are encouraged to bring their own cup and spoon. Crackers will be provided. Soda, water and coffee will be available. There will also be a bake sale sponsored by the Right to Life Ministry.
The following Hernando restaurants have committed to donate two 2 gallons or more of their feature soup to this event.
Some of the participating restaurants donating soups include Papa Joe's Italian Restaurant, Pueblo Viejo Mexican Restaurant, Magdalena's Family Restaurant, Cody's Original Roadhouse, Beef 'O' Brady's, Argento's Italian Bistro & Pastry Shop, Boston Cooker Restaurant, Chili's Grill & Bar, Carrabba's Italian Grill, Ruby Tuesday, Panera Bread, Guido's Pizza Café & Restaurant, Chefs of Napoli, Bayport Inn & Restaurant, Greek City Café, Thai Room Restaurant, Duke's American Grill and others.
Some of the soups available at the event include chicken torte soup, oyster and artichoke bisque, chicken and dumplings soup, lobster bisque, shrimp bisque, chile, chicken pastina, chicken enchilada soup, Manhattan and New England clam chowders, Thai soup, stuffed pepper soup, Italian wedding soup and Portuguese chourico.

Give blood, be entered to win iPad in raffle
Those who donate blood at LifeSouth Community Blood Center or at one of its bloodmobile locations throughout December and January will be entered into a raffle to win an iPad. The drawing will be on Feb. 1.
Also, those who donate in January will receive a backpack.
The blood center, at 12395 Cortez Blvd. in Spring Hill, is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. The center (and blood drives) will be closed on Sundays in December only, but will resume regular hours in January, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays.
Donors must be 16 or older (16-year-olds must have written parental consent). All donors must present photo identification.
All blood donors receive a complimentary cholesterol screening and a gift of appreciation. For information, call (352) 596-2002.

City to host children's Christmas Tree event
The annual Children's Christmas Tree Decorating event, sponsored by the City of Brooksville's Beautification Board and City Council, will be at 10 a.m. Dec. 10 at City Hall, 201 Howell Ave., welcoming Linda Kelly's Kindergarten class and their fourth grade Book Buddies from Moton Elementary School.
Handmade ornaments created by children will adorn the tree that will be on display outside City Hall. The children will be singing Christmas carols.

Donate to hospice, hang a tree ornament
HPH Hospice is celebrating its 16th Tree of Life community event through the end of December. Two trees are set up at the Hospice Care Center and at Hospice House, both on the campus at 12254 Cortez Blvd.
For a donation, one can hang or have an ornament placed on a tree with a tag bearing a name; names can be for someone living or in someone's memory. There are eight ornaments available, based on the contribution amount.
Donations may be made at a Tree of Life, on the website at hph-hospice.org or by calling the hospice toll-free at 1-800-486-8784. Contributions should be made by Dec. 15.
