Celebrate the trail's 20th anniversary
If you use the Pinellas Trail, today is a big day. It's the 20th anniversary of the Fred Marquis Pinellas Trail and a celebration will take place at 10 a.m. at the original location where the trail began in 1990: John S. Commissioner to face roast tonight
Commissioner Calvin Harris will be roasted at the Willa Carson 14th annual Winter Gala tonight at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 498 Rosery Road, Largo. Tarpon Springs Mayor David Archie will serve as host. Dr. Zonnya, the founder of Lives Touching Lives Inc., will be the keynote speaker. Zonnya has been a guest on various TV shows, including Oprah. Car hits bicycle; man unresponsive
A bicyclist was hospitalized after he was struck by a car, the Florida Highway Patrol said. Gregory Fenn, 55, was in stable condition Friday morning at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. The crash happened just before 9 p.m. Thursday at N Hercules Avenue and Calumet Street, according to Bay News 9. The driver was identified as 39-year-old Christopher Smith. Emergency crews found Fenn unresponsive. No other details about the crash were immediately available.
Police need gifts, money for projects
The deadline is Dec. 15 for donations to two holiday fundraisers being organized by the Clearwater Police Department to benefit disadvantaged youth. Money and gifts for children are being sought for the Holiday Cheer project, a partnership with police and Clearwater Neighborhood Housing Services. New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the Police Department; monetary donations can be made through Neighborhood Housing Services. For information on Holiday Cheer, call police Sgt. The department is also working with Society for the Enrichment and Education of Kids, Everybody's Tabernacle Homeless Emergency Project and Religious Community Services Grace House for a Christmas gift giveaway. The event will provide gifts for homeless children. New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at the Police Department; monetary donations can be made through the Davis Foundation.
