TAMPA — A UPS yard tractor pulling a trailer broke two wooden telephone poles and knocked out power for nearby businesses when the trailer got caught in a low telephone wire early Wednesday, police said.
Paul Tumicki drove a 45-foot trailer across the 5100 block of Acline Drive toward another lot. Tumicki unwittingly got a low telephone wire tangled with the trailer, which police said was raised higher than normal.
Two telephone poles broke down. Several hundred feet of electrical wire snapped and fell, police said.
The broken wires cut power shortly after 3:30 a.m. to the UPS warehouse and surrounding businesses. The road east of 50th Street was expected to be closed until around 6 a.m.
Police cited Tumicki for causing the crash.
