BROOKSVILLE — An animal clinic hoping to teach Hernando children about the humane treatment of pets and the importance of spaying and neutering is one of four finalists in a nationwide bid for a $25,000 grant.
PetLuv Nonprofit Spay and Neuter Clinic has emerged from hundreds of entries to the Inspiration to Action competition, sponsored by Heska Corp., a supplier of veterinary products and services with its headquarters in Loveland, Colo.
The winner will be decided by an online vote that ends Dec. 15.
"We will need literally thousands of votes," PetLuv co-founder and president Rick Silvani said.
The clinic, 7348 Broad St., began in 1996 on a shoestring and was open only two days a week. Now, the clinic has a $2 million budget, and surgeries are performed Tuesdays through Saturdays by appointment. It recently performed its 100,000th ...
