At Spring Hill Regional Hospital, Jews fill in so Christians can celebrate Christmas

SPRING HILL — Many people throughout Hernando County will celebrate Christmas today with family and friends. Thanks to the efforts of about 20 Jews from Temple Beth David, Christians who regularly volunteer their services at Spring Hill Regional Hospital will, too.

For the 14th year, members from the temple will substitute for the regular volunteers, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., so the Christians can enjoy Christmas. The substitutes worked from 4 to 8 p.m. Christmas Eve, too.

"This has been a very rewarding experience for all who have participated in the past and most appreciated by the volunteers at Spring Hill Regional Hospital," said Sheldon Alter, who began the holiday program at Temple Beth David with his wife, Ruth, after they moved to Spring Hill from Massachusetts in the mid 1990s.
