MD boot drive by firefighters raises $6,600
Firefighters for the East Lake Fire District raised $6,600 in their annual Muscular Dystrophy Association Boot Drive conducted on consecutive Fridays in late November and early December. Lt. Michael Porch, the event's chairman, praised Achieva Credit Union of East Lake for not charging the firefighters fees for counting the money and also noted the contribution of Sarah Lemovitz. After making her donation, Lemovitz, 25, got out of her car and held a boot at East Lake Road and Ridgemoor Drive for more than hour, collecting money. "There was only one firefighter there and he was running around frantically," said Lemovitz, who lives in Westchase.
