Surviving Shih Tzus, found abandoned in November, are ready for adoption

Hernando County Animal Services received hundreds of applications from people who wanted to adopt the abandoned Shih Tzus. 

BROOKSVILLE — More than five weeks after they were discovered abandoned east of Brooksville, the surviving Shih Tzus taken into custody by Hernando County Animal Services are now ready for adoption.

According to Animal Services director Liana Teague, the adoption process will begin Tuesday morning for people who have been approved as applicants.

It's not clear how many of the dogs will be available immediately for adoption. Earlier this month, an outbreak of parvovirus at the Animal Services facility killed 38 of the 64 Shih Tzus that were being kept at the kennel. At the time, Animal Services had received more than 260 adoption applications for the dogs.
