A freighter ship mired in the sand about two miles east of Gadsden Point is not blocking ship traffic in Hillsborough Bay.

TAMPA — A 575-foot ship carrying fertilizer remained stuck Monday night in Hillsborough Bay.

The ship, named Pollux, got stuck some time early Monday about 2 miles east of Gadsden Point.

There were no reported injuries or damage, said Tara Molle, a Coast Guard petty officer.

"The important thing right now is that it's not blocking traffic," Molle said.

Authorities were still investigating what happened, but it looks like overnight fog led to the hull getting stuck in sand. Authorities were trying to find the best way out for the ship.

Authorities couldn't say Monday where the ship was headed or how many people were on board.
