GIBSONTON — A car became lodged under a school bus Monday afternoon, sending the car's driver to the hospital, officials said.

No students were on the bus at the time, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.

The accident occurred about 3 p.m. on Big Bend Road east of U.S. 41 when the school bus stopped to clear a railroad crossing as required by school and federal regulations, deputies said. The driver of the car, Shelby Ann Bahret of Ruskin, failed to stop and struck the bus in the rear, deputies said.

Bahret, 19, was taken by helicopter to Tampa General Hospital with serious injuries.
