Hospice nurse Genevieve Bahr comforted others to the end

DUNEDIN — To get the most out of her life, Genevieve Bahr cut waste. She spurned jewelry. Her shelves displayed no knickknacks. She invested in utility stocks — they were the safest, she said.

She shared her home with a dog, a schipperke named Tabby, and tried to keep only a lamp by the couch turned on at night.

In the evenings after work, she enjoyed looking at magazines as TV cooking shows or Law and Order or Judge Judy aired.

A career nurse, Mrs. Bahr was still working full time in her 80s, the last 18 years at Suncoast Hospice. Families would ask her when their loved one was going to die, and they knew they would get a straight answer that was usually right on the mark.
